Q:  I do not like my current ambulance provider.  Can I change services even though they are the preferred provider of my insurance company?

A:  Absolutely!  The patients right to choose Ambulance service providers is protected under federal law.  You have the right to choose your service provider regardless of who your insurance company says they prefer.  ShurMed EMS can assist you in these situations.

Q:  I do not like my current ambulance provider.  Can I change services even though they are the preferred provider of the nursing home or rehabilitation center I currently preside?

A:  Yes, the patients right to choose Ambulance service providers is protected under federal law.  You have the right to choose your service provider regardless of who your institutions preference.  ShurMed EMS can assist you in these situations.

Q:  What is the difference between an ALS and BLS Ambulance?

A:  ALS which stands for Advanced Life Support, ambulances are staffed with a paramedic and EMT Intermediate or Basic qualified medics.  ALS units can start IVs, intubate patients, EKG, and administer cardiac medications.  ALS units are utilized for emergency transports.

BLS stands for Basic Life Support and BLS ambulances are staffed with EMTs.  A BLS unit should be utilized in non-emergency medical transport only.

Q:  Are you limited to the type of insurance you accept?

A:  No.  ShurMed EMS takes all insurance programs that cover ambulatory transport.  These insurances range from private insurance plans to medicare, medicaid and TriCare.

Q:  I am a VA patient and they have contracted ambulance service.  Do I have to use them?

A:  No.  ShurMed EMS is a Veteran Owned company and is on the list of VA providers.  Contact ShurMed EMS for consultation and we will work to assist your needs.

Q:  Is wheelchair service covered under my insurance?

A:  Unfortunately, wheelchair service is only covered on a very limited basis.  Most insurance plans do not cover wheelchair transportation service.
